Volunteer Application
Blue Ridge ISD loves its volunteers, and we truly appreciate the partnership we have with our families. Your support helps create meaningful experiences for our students, and we want to ensure a safe, welcoming environment for all.
Below you’ll find quick answers to common questions about background checks and fingerprinting.
🔍 Who Needs a Background Check?
Any parent or guardian who volunteers on campus or attends a school event as a chaperone must complete a Background Check Form.
Examples of volunteer activities include (this is not an all-inclusive list):
📚 Helping with the Book Fair
📝 Making copies or assisting in the workroom
📖 Reading to students in the classroom
🎉 Assisting with classroom events or activities
🚌 Chaperoning day field trips
🗓️ When Should I Submit the Background Check Form?
Please submit your form 2–3 weeks before each field trip or volunteer activity.
➡️ A new form is required for each field trip. Please make sure to list the exact dates of the event(s) you plan to attend with your child—this helps us process your approval efficiently.
🖐️ Who Needs to Be Fingerprinted?
Fingerprinting is required for volunteers who will have extended, repeated, or overnight responsibility with students, including:
🌙 Overnight field trip chaperones
⭐ Coaches or sponsors of student groups, including BETA Club
👥 Volunteers who regularly assist with student groups outside the school dayFingerprinting ensures the district is subscribed to your information as required by state law.

Before scheduling, you must contact Amanda Ray or Stacy Sikes to receive the required Service Code.
🛡️ Why Both Background Checks and Fingerprinting?
Some roles—like overnight chaperoning or coaching—place volunteers in closer, longer-term contact with students. State law requires fingerprint-based checks for these situations to help ensure student safety.
⏳ How Long Does Processing Take?
Background checks: Typically 1–2 weeks
Fingerprinting: Processing times vary; please allow extra time
To avoid delays, we recommend completing all requirements early—especially during busy seasons like spring field trips.
