Pete Copin

Blue Ridge Independent School District is proud to announce the hiring of Pete Copin as the district’s new Director of Safety and Security. Mr. Copin brings over 36 years of distinguished law enforcement experience and will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of all students, staff, and visitors across the district. The BRISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved his hiring at their meeting on June 16, 2025.

In this role, Mr. Copin will oversee the district's comprehensive safety and security initiatives, including emergency operations, threat assessments, and campus safety protocols. His appointment also marks a strategic step forward, as the position will transition to Chief of Police upon the creation of the Blue Ridge ISD Police Department.

“Pete Copin’s depth of experience and strong leadership in school-based law enforcement make him an ideal fit for this important role,” said Superintendent Dr. Darrell Floyd. “His commitment to student and staff safety, coupled with his ability to build positive relationships, will greatly benefit the Blue Ridge community.”

Mr. Copin most recently served as Chief of Police for A+ Charter Schools, where he developed training programs, implemented emergency operations plans, and led behavioral threat assessment initiatives. Prior to that, he held leadership positions with Melissa ISD Police Department and Anna Police Department, among others. He also served honorably in the United States Marine Corps.

Mr. Copin holds a Master Peace Officer License and is certified in Behavioral Threat Assessment, ALERRT, and School-Based Law Enforcement. He earned his Bachelor's in Business Administration from LeTourneau University.

"I am honored to join Blue Ridge ISD and look forward to working with district leadership, staff, and families to create a secure and supportive environment for students to thrive," said Copin.
